An influx of young adults in the 1970s kept Colorado’s population younger compared to other states. But those ’70s transplants are now heading into retirement while fewer residents are having kids. Coloradans age 65 and older are the fastest growing age group in the state, and forecasts show that 1 in 5 Colorado residents will be over 65 by 2050.
